Righteous Rib Burger and more at Romers Burger Bar

Romers Burger Bar has three locations in the Lower Mainland: one in Yaletown, one on Marine Drive and another at Kits. The Kitsilano location is where I found myself last weekend.

grilled cheese

Although they don’t have a proper Kid’s Menu, the kitchen is happy to make your little one a Grilled Cheese, if a burger is not to their liking. The bread is lightly toasted and there is enough cheese to satisfy the gooey ooey quotient. And surprisingly, it’s not overly oily and doesn’t feel too heavy either.

righteous rib

One way you can enjoy a Romers Burger with a bit less guilt is to “make it green.” Instead of your burger being served on their signature brioche bun, you get generous halves of iceberg lettuce, that essentially mimics a bun.

You do have to pay a few extra cents for this pleasure, but it’s a good way to go carb-light. This is the Righteous Rib Burger. When I ordered it the first time, I assumed (erroneously) that instead of a burger patty, my bun would be filled with some short rib instead.

Nooooo… your bun (or lettuce) is filled WITH short rib on TOP of your burger patty. You can make it even messier by adding a fried egg, extra cheese and bacon and more. We opted for a traditional version and it was still pretty messy!

The lettuce as a bun is refreshing and the short rib is ridiculously tender. I could have used a bit more seasoning (salt or spice) but overall, the burger was solid.

onion rings

I am not usually a fan of Onion Rings, but I had to admit, the Romer’s version is amazing! They don’t come cheap, but they are worth it! They aren’t cut super thick, but the coating has a tendency to stay stuck onto the onions, so as not to break apart when you bite into them.

Also, the crunch of the breading is insane… super crispy and tasty too. The dipping sauce is almost unnecessary, since they are flavourful enough, as is.

fries

If you don’t want onion rings, you can add Fresh Cut Fries to your burger. And yes, they are good, but onion rings are SO MUCH better. Golden and crispy, these are good, but I’d suggest upgrading to their Truffle Oil & Reggiano version, or even their Killer Poutine, complete with curds and gravy!
