Are you ready to get into gear and get rid of cancer for good? The Ride to Conquer Cancer kicks off this week with Gear Up Day!
You may remember way back in June when the ‘Buzz profiled last year’s Ride to Conquer Cancer that raised over $11.2 million for the BC Cancer Agency. Since then, the Ride has been heralded as the biggest philanthropic contribution in the entire province. On October 3rd, the entire journey begins again.
This coming Wednesday is Gear Up Day, the official launch of the 5th annual Ride to Conquer Cancer taking place this coming June 15th and 16th. The event, which has raised $39 million over the past four years, seeks to raise money for research and improved treatment for many different strains of cancer. 3000 Canadians are diagnosed weekly with the disease, and 1500 will die every single week – these are terrifying numbers.
The Ride is a 2-day, 200+ kilometre journey between Vancouver and Seattle, full of lush growth, beautiful views, and challenging hills. In other parts of the country, the Ride attracts huge interest, and necessitates four (or even more!) route options. BC’s has two – classic and challenge – both of which provide an unbelievable experience to even the novice cyclist. Even yours truly is taking part in the unforgettable experience!
On Gear Up Day, people are being encouraged to wear a piece of cycling gear in support of the Ride and to help spread awareness about the amazing philanthropic opportunity that is available to any who are willing to participate and fundraise. Breakthrough cancer research developments and enhancements have come out of the BC Cancer Agency and, with all of our help, even more will surely be on the horizon.
