Richmond RCMP are investigating after a single-vehicle crash left a man dead.

Police were called to the 20000 block of River Road during the early hours of Monday morning after a Nissan SUV crashed into the support structure of an elevated train bridge. The driver sustained massive injuries and had to be extracted from the wreck by Richmond Fire and Rescue.

The 47-year-old man succumbed to his injuries, despite rescue efforts.

The Richmond RCMP are asking for witnesses to step forward.

“The investigation is in its early infancy. We cannot rule out anything at this point. Since the collision occurred very early in the morning, we have not been able to locate potential witnesses. If anyone has any information on this tragic collision, please contact us,” said Corporal Dennis Hwang in a release.

If you have any information about this fatal car accident, contact the Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212 or call Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous at 1-800-222-TIPS.
