Richmond man arrested for Ryan Reynolds hit-and-run incident

Vancouver Police have arrested a Richmond paparazzo after he allegedly hit actor Ryan Reynolds with his vehicle and fled the scene.

The 52-year-old man is currently in police custody and could face a charge of intimidation. He was identified with the help of security footage and witnesses, but his identity cannot be released until he is formally charged.

He was arrested by police on Sunday and is scheduled to appear in court today.

On Friday at approximately 7 p.m., Reynolds was leaving the parking garage of the Shangri-La Hotel in downtown Vancouver when the paparazzo confronted the actor, took photos of him and fled the scene in his car. As he was fleeing the scene, his vehicle hit Reynolds.

According to police, Reynolds only received minor injuries as a result of contact with the vehicle – a sore knee and back. However, he was seen at the Georgia Viaduct film set in his red and black Deadpool costume the following day.

The Criminal Code of Canada defines “intimidation” as an act where an individual is persistently followed and watched, including where that person resides, works, carries on business or happens to be. If convicted, the individual could face a prison sentence of up to five years.

Reynolds has been in Vancouver over the last few weeks filming 20th Century Fox’s cinematic adaptation of Marvel’s Deadpool, a spinoff of the long-running X-Men series.

Filming has been occurring at the Georgia Viaduct since April 6 and is scheduled to end on April 18 at the very latest. The arterial route has been closed during most daytime hours since filming began.

Production on the big budget Hollywood film will continue in B.C. until the end of May.
