Vanhoover Pony Expo

What: Vanhoover Pony Expo gives Canadian pony fans a convention to call their own, and gives the entire fandom a place to celebrate all things pony in Vancouver. Despite its name and theme, organizers note that Vanhoover Pony Expo is in no way affiliated with Hasbro, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, and related media belong exclusively to Hasbro and/or its subsidiaries.

Herring Sale for Autism

What: Autism Community Training is hosting an Herring for Autism Sale, sponsored by Oceanside Fisheries, to raise funds for ACT. Last year over 20,000 pounds of herring was sold.

When: January 11, 2020

Where: 7th Avenue Wharf – 3080 Moncton Street, Richmond
Admission: Free. Each 20lb (9kg) bag is $20 with all proceeds going to ACT.

Galleria Photography Exhibition: Visibility by Ya-Wei Lin

What: Visibility documents Ya-Wei Lin’s daily observation of the urban landscape. The ongoing series of observational photographic images reflect on and ponder the meaning of the word “visibility” in the broadest sense. The exhibition, in the works since 2016, showcases 11 images taken in the greater Vancouver area.

Ann Pearson at Richmond Public Library

What: Author Ann Pearson converses about her new book, A Promise on the Horizon, a historical novel based on events in the life of French writer Stendhal (Marie-Henri Beyle). Pearson will share the challenges of writing biographical fiction and what the medium can achieve that traditional biography can not. Presented in partnership with Granville Island Publishing.

Walk Richmond – Minoru Park

The Label Unwrapped: The History of Canned Salmon Labels

What: The Label Unwrapped showcases the history of colourful and thought-provoking labels from BC salmon canneries. The interactive exhibit features giant cans and a life-size comic book detailing the label artwork. The Label Unwrapped also explores big ideas like Canadian identity, patriotism, and creative advertising to children.
