Richmond cenotaph for fallen soldiers vandalized

Dec 19 2017, 5:49 pm

Richmond RCMP are looking for the individuals who were responsible for vandalizing the cenotaph outside Richmond City Hall with graffiti.

The monument was built to commemorate fallen Canadian soldiers, and the police are making a public plea for tips on who may have committed the act.

Clean-up crews have suspended their work as they are unable to remove the graffiti paint without rubbing off the names of fallen soldiers, including recently added names.

RCMP suspect the damage was done sometime between 5 p.m. on February 24 to 9 a.m. on February 25. According to Breakfast Television, graffiti has also been sprayed on other Richmond statues, Olympic monuments and Britannia shipyards.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Richmond RCMP directly at 604-278-1212 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
