Fall has arrived and that means finding interesting activities to do indoors. Thankfully Vancouver has a bounty of art galleries to stimulate our psyches and open our eyes to other worlds. Rezerect: Native Erotica is currently exhibiting at the Bill Reid Gallery, and introduces its visitors to the world of First Nations erotic art in a fresh and playful way.
The exhibition features the works of 27 First Nations artists who draw their inspiration from diverse sources: the natural world, language, oral histories, creation stories, ancient songs of love and heartbreak, dance, ceremony, traditional foods, working with wood and natural fibres.
“Artists share a passion for their culture, and strive to transform public opinion on the collective understanding of First Nations’ people and cultures,” said Co-Curator, Kwiaahwah Jones. “The works will challenge you to look at sexuality. They might make you laugh, blush, cry or even leave you hungry.”
Rezerect: Native Erotica will run from September 25, 2013 until February 16, 2014.
