Report: Team 1040 to become TSN Radio

Dec 19 2017, 7:49 pm

Vancouver’s only sports radio stations will be getting a name change on Monday according to reports from local media insider Greg Douglas.

Team 1040 and Team 1410 will become TSN 1040 and TSN 1410, respectively. This is a move that has been anticipated for a while now (Team 1050 in Toronto changed to TSN 1050 three years ago), as the Team Radio in Vancouver was the only sports radio property owned by Bell Media that hadn’t aligned with the new brand.

Expect the new name change to affect very little with regards to on-air hosts, as this should be purely a cosmetic change. At the moment it’s unclear whether it will have an affect on their ability to continue to have guests from Sportsnet. My guess is that there won’t be a change in that regard unless Sportsnet tries to start their own Vancouver-based sports radio station.

Douglas also hinted that Team 1040 host Don Taylor, who was recently let go by Rogers Sportsnet, may return to television with some form of new local programming from TSN. TSN is expanding to five channels on Monday.
