Report: Ryan Miller will start in goal for Canucks in Game 5

According to a report from Sportsnet’s Irfaan Gaffar, Ryan Miller will get the start in goal for the Canucks in Game 5.

Miller will take over from Eddie Lack, who was excellent in the regular season, posting a save percentage of .921. Though Lack was excellent in the first two games of the series, his playoff save percentage is a woeful .886 and ranks 15th out of 16 starting goalies.

Miller wasn’t busy in two periods of play against the Flames, but he looked sharp while making some difficult saves.

Miller was rather average this sesason, posting a save percentage of .911 in 45 games. In 54 career playoff games, his save percentage is .916.

The big question for Miller is his health. He has admitted that he isn’t 100% yet and that has to be concerning.

Vancouver was in a similar goaltending dilemma in 2013, when starting goalie Cory Schneider wasn’t 100%, but started Game 3 and 4. Schneider played terrible and the Canucks would have been better off starting Roberto Luongo, who lost the first two games of the series.

The situation with Miller is different though, in that he has been cleared to play two weeks. Cory Schneider went from sitting in the press box to starting Game 3 against the Sharks in a matter of days.

If the Canucks are to mount a comeback, they will need a hot goalie. In Game 5, the six million dollar man will get his chance.
