Remembrance Day Ceremonies in Metro Vancouver 2013

Remembrance Day is a time to reflect and remember those individuals that sacrificed their lives to give us a better world today. Here’s the list of Remembrance Day ceremonies and events happening around Metro Vancouver.

Vancouver – Victory Square

  • Where: Victory Square Cenotaph – Hastings & Cambie
  • Schedule of events:
    • 8 a.m. – Lighting of Cauldron at Jack Poole Plaza
    • 10 a.m. – Led by the Vancouver Flag Party, the parade of veterans, military marching units and bands will arrive at Victory Square
    • 10:30 a.m. – Ceremony begins
    • 11 a.m. – Playing of Last Post, two minutes of silence, 21-gun salute
  • Parade: West along Hastings Street after ceremony

Burnaby – North

  • Where: Confederation Park Cenotaph – Willingdon Avenue & Penzance Drive
  • Time: 10:30 a.m. parade (from Safeway parking lot – 4440 Hastings Street), 10:45 a.m. ceremony starts

Burnaby – South

  • Where: Bonsor Park Cenotaph – Imperial Street & Nelson Avenue
  • Time: 10:30 a.m. parade (from Legion #83 – 5289 Grimmer Street), 11 a.m. ceremony starts

Coquitlam

  • Where: Coquitlam Cenotaph on Veterans Way
  • Time: 10 a.m. service at Como Lake Middle School Auditorium (1121 King Albert Avenue), 10:30 a.m. parade to Cenotaph on Veterans Way, 10:45 a.m. service at Cenotaph

Delta

  • Where: North Delta Social Heart Plaza – 11415 84th Avenue
  • Time: 10:30 a.m.
  • Other details: Light refreshments to follow at the North Delta Recreation Centre

  • Where: Royal Canadian Legion Delta Branch #61 – 4896 Delta Street
  • Time: 10:15 a.m. parade from Legion to Cenotaph at Ladner Memorial Park (5010 47th Avenue). Ceremony at 10:45 a.m.
  • Parking: Available near the Legion and Ladner Memorial Park

  • Where: Douglas Park Cenotaph – 20550 Douglas Crescent
  • Time: 10:25 a.m. parade (starts at 206th Street, south of 56th Avenue), 11 a.m. ceremony

Mission

  • Where: Clarke Theatre – 33700 Prentis Avenue
  • Time: 10 a.m. parade from Old Windebank School on Stave Lake Street. 10:40 a.m. ceremony. Wreath laying ceremony at the Legion (32627 Logan Avenue)
  • Other details: Social gathering for Legion members, guests and public in the lounge after the ceremonies.

New Westminster

  • Where: 
    • Royal Westminster Regiment, Armouries (live) – 530 Queen’s Avenue
    • Queens Avenue United Church (live broadcast) – 529 Queen’s Avenue
  • Time: 10 a.m. – participants are requested to assemble at either location by 9:30 a.m. Doors to the Armouries will be closed at 9:45 a.m.
  • Parade: Following ceremonies in the Armouries to the Cenotaph in front of City Hall

North Vancouver – Cates Park

  • Where: Cates Park – 200 block of Dollarton Highway
  • Time: 11 a.m.

North Vancouver – Lonsdale

  • Where: Victoria Park Cenotaph – Lonsdale & East Keith Road
  • Time: 10:30 a.m.
  • Parade: Before and after service
    • 9:20 a.m. Pipe Band march off from Armories at 15th & Forbes Avenue, proceed east up 15th across Lonsdale Avenue, then southbound to St. Georges
    • 9:55 a.m. Pipe Band, RCMP and Fire Department will proceed south on St. Georges to East Keith
    • 11:30 a.m. After ceremonies, Veterans and remaining participants will march northbound on Lonsdale, west on 15th Street and end at Armories on Forbes Avenue
