Remembering Wally's Burgers

Dec 19 2017, 1:01 pm

Wally’s Burgers. Say those two words to long time East Vancouverites and they’ll tell you stories about great burgers in town and good times at the old burger stand. Sadly, unlike Save On Meats, Wally’s Burger met the wrecking ball back in 2008 to make way for condo’s on Kingsway.

It was great burger stand for 50 plus years and it was a shame that it could not have been saved and operated at it’s current location. Perhaps, more effort should have been put into saving it? I’m always hearing people trying to save the 2400 Motel, which is home to nothing but drugs and prostitutes. Why no large collective effort for Wally’s?

There is a new Wally’s Burgers in Killarney now at 2611 East 49th Avenue (pictured above). From what I hear it’s not the same owners but the same recipes. If you’re ever in the neighbourhood check them out and get the Chuck Wagon Burger. It’s not the old Wally’s but it’s pretty damn close.

Just like the Pho Bich Nga sign, Wally’s Burgers neon sign will too be missed. For two completely different reasons of course.
