The B.C. teachers’ strike has been challenging for communities across British Columbia. Given that this situation is top of mind the Vancouver Aquarium is planning to continue supporting the community’s educational needs and engage students with aquatic conservation by offering Day Programs to B.C. parents.

Registration is now open for these programs here, and are available for grades K-12 starting on Tuesday, September 2.

The Aquarium’s day programs would include many of the same learning opportunities as would its standard school programs. Children will connect with incredible aquatic animals and learn about marine life by interacting with the Aquarium’s staff biologists, veterinarians and aquarists.

Day Programs are mission-focused and are specifically designed to foster scientific literacy by connecting children to nature.

For grades 8-12, the Aquarium is offering the Youth Environmental Leaders Program. Participants will work with our educators and scientists to create personal and community action plans in one-day intensive workshops.

Each day in the workshop series will focus on a different environmental issue, and a variety of daily topics, experiments and guest speakers will allow participants to explore the effects of their everyday behavior on the environment, their health and well being.

After the completion of the one day workshop, youth leaders will be invited to apply for a Fall 2014 Youth Environmental Scholarship to fund their future service project or apply to future studies.
