Syrian refugees get sky-high ride to celebrate Canada 150 (VIDEO)

BC’s natural beauty is breath-taking even for those of us who have grown up amid the green forests, snowy mountains, and clear rivers, but for three Syrian refugees it was even more of an “unbelievable” experience.

Ayat, Omer, and Hozan all fled their homeland and arrived in Canada with nothing.

But thanks to the DIVERSEcity Community Resource Society they were able to celebrate Canada 150 from a vantage that few ever get to enjoy.

The new Canadians were taken for a helicopter ride by pilot/YouTuber Bradley Friesen, who flew them over Widgeon Lake before settling down in the snows on one of BC’s mountains.

In the video they tell stories of fleeing their homes, travelling to Canada, and the reception they have received in this country. They are only three of more than 40,000 people who have settled in Canada after being displaced by the war in Syria.

The heart-warming video was created by Friesen with help from his producing partner Treven LePage and in partnership with CBC.
