The best of B.C.’s beautiful and talented gathered at the Vancouver Playhouse to celebrate the province’s film, television and digital media. Talent roamed the red carpet, tweets flew and drinks were poured by the plenty. All while the room buzzed with conversation, and cameras captured guests and the best dressed.
The Union of BC Performers and ACTRA Awards proved to be a smashing success, and was attended by over 680 industry professionals including UBCP members, industry partners, press and politicians. Evening highlights included a haunting acceptance speech by Carmen Moore in recognition for her “accomplishments that advance the status of women in society.” The room fell silent when she shared moments of her tumultuous childhood, going on to say that “I believe that acting has saved my life.” Gabrielle Rose took home Best Actress. Upon taking the stage, holding her statue in astonishment, she spoke of a scene in which she had to play dead; she recalled being shoved into a hockey bag, and then rolled up in a carpet; thinking to herself how blessed she was. “I get to do this for a living,” she said, tearing up, “isn’t it fabulous?” A full list of the winners is included below, and congratulations to all of the nominees.
