RCMP investigate assault of 78-year-old woman in Surrey

RCMP is investigating following an assault of a senior citizen that took place in the South Surrey area on June 11.

Police say at 5:45 pm they received a report of the assault that took place about an hour earlier in the 14700 block of 17 Avenue.

The 78-year-old female victim said she was walking with her husband westbound on 17 Avenue. They walked past an unknown male who was walking eastbound. The man yelled at the victim and hit her in the face with an unknown object causing “significant but non-life-threatening injuries.”

The suspect continued walking down 17 Avenue towards 148 Street.

The victim was taken to hospital but has since been released.

The suspect is described as a middle-aged Caucasian man, standing approximately 5’10” tall. Police say he “has a longer upper body and shorter bowed legs,” dark hair, and was wearing jeans and dark clothing at the time of the assault.
