RCMP investigating brawl involving up to 15 people in Surrey (VIDEO)

Police are investigating after a brawl that broke out in Surrey’s Newton area over the weekend.

A video surfaced online and was uploaded to Reddit, titled “Just another day at strawberry hill theatre in Surrey.” The 26-second clip shows a large group of males engaged in a fight in the parking lot.

At points of the video, there are as many as four or five people teaming up on single individuals.

According to the Surrey RCMP, there were as many as 15 males involved in the fight. Police say it’s unclear when exactly the incident took place, although the video was uploaded on Sunday, August 11.

“Ten to 15 males were fighting in a parking lot, believed to be the Strawberry Hills area in Newton,” says Cst. Richard Wright of the Surrey RCMP. “We understand that there’s a concern regarding the behaviour, it’s absolutely unacceptable.”

“We’re engaged in an active investigation and are trying to identify the individuals involved.”

At this point in time, however, Cst. Wright has not received an update from the community response unit and nobody has been identified.

Cst. Wright also explains that the police are aware of the “issues and challenges” that take place in the area, noting that it’s a hot spot for frontline officers.

“We’re aware of the issues around Strawberry Hills and the challenges that take place around the area,” he says. “We have an ongoing project in place to work with the businesses and residents in the area.”

“We want to know what caused the fight and we also want to make sure that no one was injured. It’s important for the public, as well as for everyone’s wellbeing.”
