If you missed out on some of the incredible spirits that went up for sale at the BC Liquour Store late last year, there’s another chance for scotch lovers to get their hands on a rare bottle of The Balvenie‘s 50-year-old ‘Fifty,’ valued at $45,000 CDN.

Bottle number 68 of The Balvenie® ‘Fifty’ cask 4567 will be released for sale at the Cambie Location of the BC Liquor Store on January 12. One of only 131 bottles available around the globe, it also happens to be the sole bottle of the release available in all of Canada.

What makes this particular scotch so special? “In the case of The Balvenie® ‘Fifty’, Malt Master David Stewart has created a unique combination of natural alchemy and centuries old craftsmanship, and we are delighted to know that this expression will find a loving home here in Canada,” Elizabeth Havers, The Balvenie® Brand Ambassador in Canada, said in a media release.

‘Fifty’ is “characterized by its reddish hues, dark fruits and spice with a deep and lingering fruity sweetness on the tongue.” Tasting notes include “sweet raisins and a subtle ginger spiciness.”

The bottle is hand-blown glass, which is hand-filled with the ‘Fifty.’ And that ‘Fifty,’ by the way, has only ever lived in one other place since May 28, 1963: European oak cask number 4567. One of two casks retrieved in 2014 by the distillery, number 4567 is considered the darker, richer, spicier of the pair.

Havers will conduct a tasting seminar on January 13 at the Cambie store. Guests will be guided through a sit-down educational tasting of six Balvenie whiskies paired with high-end restaurant bites. Tickets are $40 and are available for purchase at the store.

This video explores Balvenie’s ‘Fifty’ and their previous release of a 1962 cask–which was up for sale in Vancouver in 2012 for a much more approachable $33,500.
