This Saturday, March 19, raise your hands against racism with Spice Radio.
Now in its second year, Raise Your Hands Against Racism is an event from Spice Radio inspired by the Indian celebration of Holi. During Holi coloured powders and water are thrown, blocking out skin colour, creed, caste, and culture – making everyone the same under a brilliant cloud.
Raise Your Hands Against Racism asks supporters to post pictures of their hands raised with the #HandsAgainstRacism hashtag. On Saturday, March 19 the celebration comes to a head, with supporters gathering to add their hand print to banners in event across Metro Vancouver.
At the Roundhouse Community Centre, CBC’s Dan Burritt will take attendees through a day of education, friendship, and entertainment. From traditional Holi dances and the history of the festival to a talk from a former white supremacist recruiter who has since changed his ways, and now works to get others out of racist organizations.
