Rainfall and wind warning issued for Metro Vancouver Tuesday

Grab your umbrella, but hold onto it with a tight grip, as Environment Canada has issued a rainfall and wind warning for Metro Vancouver.

According to the warning, an intense frontal system will bring heavy rainfall throughout the South Coast this morning. Between 50 and 70 mm will fall, and up to 100 mm is expected in the mountains over parts of Howe Sound.

The heaviest rainfall will occur overnight and early this morning, just ahead of the frontal passage.

In addition to the precipitation, gusts as high as 90 km/h can be expected.

“An intense cold front will cross the South Coast this morning. As the front passes, strong southeast winds will shift abruptly to westerly winds,” reads the warning. “The westerly winds will gradually abate early this afternoon.”

While rain is forecast to stick around all week, the warning will, thankfully, not last as long.

It rains a lot in Vancouver. So when Environment Canada feels the need to issue a rainfall warning for the region, you know we’re in for something really special.
