Up to 40 mm of rainfall expected in Metro Vancouver today

A rainfall warning remains in effect over Metro Vancouver on Thursday morning.

Environment Canada issued the statement for the following areas:

  • Metro Vancouver – central including the City of Vancouver Burnaby and New Westminster
  • Metro Vancouver – North Shore including West Vancouver and North Vancouver
  • Metro Vancouver – northeast including Coquitlam and Maple Ridge

The weather agency says that “an intense frontal system is currently moving through the south coast.”

Heavy rain is expected to continue throughout the morning with between 30 to 40 mm of precipitation around northeast and central Metro Vancouver, as well as the North Shore.

Flash flooding and water pooling are also possible due to the heavy downpour.

Environment Canada says that the rain is expected to ease up on Thursday afternoon.
