The Metro Vancouver region is in for some significant precipitation beginning tonight, according to a weather warning issued by Environment Canada.
Forecasters predict heavy rainfall will begin near midnight, with the most intense showers occurring during the early morning hours of Saturday.
Altogether, about 50 mm of rainfall can be expected in the North Shore mountains and southern area of Howe Sound. The weather office has advised the public that conditions could cause flash floods and water pooling on roads: drivers should exercise extra caution.
The system’s influence should taper to light showers by daybreak, becoming a mix of sun and cloud in the afternoon.
On Friday afternoon, temperatures in the eastern areas of Metro Vancouver soared to levels well above seasonal norms. Thermometer gauges in Langley recorded a high of 20°C and parts of Surrey reached 18°C.
Wet weather is expected to remain in the region until the middle of next week but mild temperatures will continue.
No new snow is in the forecast for the region’s North Shore mountains.
