A rain warning and wind statement has been issued for Metro Vancouver due to a Pacific frontal system that will carry on throughout Thursday and into the weekend.

Environment Canada is calling for 50 to 70mm of rain expected for Howe Sound and near the North Shore mountains on Thursday, tapering off by evening to lighter showers. Meanwhile, strong winds of 50 to 70km/h will hit the Strait of Georgia from the southeast.

Winds will maintain strength into the evening but switch directions to the southwest. The Lower Mainland will see gusts of up to 70km/h this evening. While Environment Canada has not issued an official wind warning yet, winds speeds could pick up.

The Weather Network is forecasting seven days of rain with especially wet weather for this weekend, including 50+mm of rain on Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Temperatures will stay warm at about 9°C.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Stay tuned to Environment Canada for updates.
