Happy Pride Month!

Many businesses are taking the opportunity to show support for the queer community right now, but for 2SLGBTQIA+ entrepreneurs, professionals, and students interested in business, Pride isn’t just one month of the year. Their identities shape the opportunities and challenges they encounter every day.

That’s where Queer Business BC comes into play. As the longest-running queer business association in the province and a hub for 2SLGBTQIA+ businesses, entrepreneurs, and professionals, Queer Business BC helps provide members with connections to community, education, mentorship, and access to opportunities.

After all, queer businesses and people have what it takes to achieve their full potential, openly, equitably, and with pride, and community is the key to making that happen.

From skill-building workshops to interactive events and community initiatives, members have access to plenty of programs that provide practical tools, meaningful guidance, and lasting connections.

The mentorship program aims to strengthen B.C,’s queer business ecosystem through guidance and shared learning, while the education program offers introductory-level workshops for 2SLGBTQIA+ entrepreneurs and creatives across the province.

What’s a business hub without networking? Queer Business BC hosts plenty of events throughout the year to bring members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ business community together in person. Think networking mixers, business development workshops, and other meet-up opportunities.

While these gatherings are certainly lots of fun, they also provide welcoming spaces for queer business professionals to share experience, build relationships, and accelerate business growth.

Amplifying queer voices

While Queer Business BC is a great resource for the 2SLGBTQIA+ business community, it’s also helpful for people who want to support queer-run businesses.

An online directory showcases 2SLGBTQIA+ businesses, entrepreneurs, professionals and allies who are part of the QBBC community, and features everything from legal services and banking to nightlife and travel.

Why it matters

People who have shared experiences and identities are well-equipped to support each other, and fostering these connections can open new doors to business opportunities. And unfortunately, homophobia and transphobia are not problems of the past — sometimes it’s just nice for people to know that they’re working within a safe community.

Are you interested in joining a community of queer makers, doers, and thinkers? Annual membership is $25 for students, $50 for professionals, $150 for established businesses, and a sliding scale for registered charities, non-profits, and community groups. Plus, you don’t have to be a member to show your support. Anyone can get involved by attending an event, participating in a program, or following Queer Business BC on social media.

Visit the Queer Business BC website to learn more about how the province’s longest-running queer business association can support you, and sign up for the mailing list to receive exciting updates.
