Pumpkin Spice Lattes

It’s that time of year. The days become shorter and the cold air lingers. Girls trade in their crop tops and sandals for sweaters and Uggs. Frappuccino’s are quickly replaced with pumpkin spice lattes. Yes, autumn is here.

Pumpkin spice lattes from Starbucks have become an autumn essential. It’s impossible to enter a Starbucks without overhearing someone order one. It’s the “it” seasonable beverage. You either hate it or love it, as there seems to be no in-between.

I personally find pumpkin spice lattes to be overrated. The bitter, acidic and burnt espresso paired with sugar laden syrup that tastes nothing remotely like pumpkin spice speaks nothing of autumn. Not only that, it’s also super sweet. I know plenty of people who order it half sweetened, only to be disappointed.

If you truly want a seasonal beverage, you’re better off going to a local cafe. It’s guaranteed to taste better and it will also probably cost less, two things Starbucks does not really offer. When something is mass produced for a large quantity, the quality tends to diminish in the process. A smaller local chain coffee shop or independent cafe is guaranteed to make sure that the coffee they serve is quality coffee.
