Content warning: The following includes references to trauma.

Anyone who has experienced trauma might know that the weight of it doesn’t always show up right away. But when it does, it can be life-altering.

It seeps into sleep, into relationships, into the quiet moments when the mind refuses to rest. For some, it takes months. For others, decades. Many cycle through therapies, medications, and coping strategies, but find that conventional treatment never quite reaches the root of it.

Now, a medically supervised program in Vancouver is offering a different path forward.

Running every month, Qi Integrated Health‘s small-group psychedelic-assisted therapy program has been designed to support those living with PTSD, depression, and unresolved trauma through a structured, clinical approach.

And for one veteran, this approach made all the difference.

One veteran’s story and journey to healing

After serving 29 years in the military, one veteran  began experiencing the return of distressing memories he thought were long behind him.

When traditional counselling didn’t provide the help he needed, he was introduced to psychedelic-assisted therapy, something he describes as a “very emotional” journey that “healed” him.

In treatment, he was able to return to moments he’d spent years running from, including one traumatic incident that had quietly defined him ever since… and for the first time, let go of the guilt he’d carried all alone.

Now, he recommends it to anyone who’s been in the military or emergency services, whether they are currently experiencing problems or not. Why? Because trauma can surface years, even decades, later and conventional tools don’t always reach it.

Giving you the tools you need to heal

Qi Integrated Health’s program includes multiple steps: initial consultations, a full medical review, in-depth preparation session, including group breathwork, medically supervised treatments, and expert integration sessions, all supported by ongoing check-ins throughout the process.

Group sizes are intentionally kept small, with up to eight participants for preparation and integration. These are held virtually and at the clinic’s serene Kitsilano location, which has been serving the area for 20 years.

As treatment progresses, participants move into more intimate groups of four or fewer for in-person sessions in a purpose-built therapeutic space in the clinic known as “The Grove”.

Psychedelic therapies remain stigmatized in today’s society, but growing research, alongside patient experiences, is challenging perceptions and opening new conversations around this type of mental health treatment.

Qi’s program is legal, licensed, insured, led by a multidisciplinary medical team including a Medical Director, Staff Psychiatrist, nurses, therapeutic facilitators, and backed by over 50 years of research. Plus, it may even be eligible for coverage under extended health benefits.

If you or someone you know has been living with PTSD, anxiety, and/or depression, you know how hard it can be to keep carrying it while trying to live a normal life, Qi’s psychedelic-assisted therapy programs are built to help people safely process trauma in a deeper way.

PTSD doesn’t have to be the end of your story.
