Take your ideas from drawing board to mother board at ProtoHack Vancouver

The startup market is a techie’s playground, but what if you’ve got the idea, and the business sense, but no technical know-how? Enter ProtoHack Vancouver.

Started in San Francisco, California, ProtoHack is an organization that hosts “code-free hackathons,” aimed at levelling the playing field in today’s rapidly developing tech startup environment.

A hackathon is a sort of time-limited jam session where creators sit down, hash out the details of their ideas, and spend the day making a working prototype. After giving a 30 second picture on their idea, designers are matched with tech professionals who can give them the direction and assistance they need, and are given access to drag-and-drop tools designed to take all the heavy-lifting out of software development.

“I founded ProtoHack because there wasn’t a platform for non-techies to launch their ideas,” ProtoHack CEO and Founder Cole Fox said in a media release. “I tried learning code and starting my own startup, but failed. Learning to code isn’t the only option any longer if you have a vision for the next ‘big idea.'”

There have been more than 25 events in 14 cities, in five different countries, and more are cropping up every year. ProtoHack Vancouver comes from a partnership between ProtoHack and Vancouver-based organization lett.io, who connected with ProtoHack at an event in San Francisco.

Tickets are currently $75 until August 26, and $100 until August 29. Vancity Buzz readers can use the promo-code BUZZHACK to receive 20% off the price of their ticket.
