Pro tennis returns to Metro Vancouver and here's who is playing
The Odlum Brown VanOpen is set to make its triumphant return.
The largest pro tennis tournament in Western Canada, the West Vancouver event was first held in 2002, but has fallen on tough times recently. It has been held just once this decade, as the pandemic forced the cancellation of the 2020 and 2021 tournaments, before returning in 2022. The tournament wasn’t held in 2023, 2024, or 2025, as Hollyburn Country Club underwent renovations.
The 2026 Odlum Brown VanOpen features men’s ATP Challenger 125 and women’s WTA 125 tournaments, and is scheduled for July 26 to Aug. 2.

Many big names in the tennis world played the Odlum Brown VanOpen before they became famous. That list includes Canadian stars like Felix Auger-Aliassime, Milos Raonic, Vasek Pospisil, Bianca Andreescu, Leylah Fernandez, and Genie Bouchard, as well as international stars like Maria Sharapova, Johanna Konta, Andy Murray, Taylor Fritz, and Marcos Baghdatis.
Six players who competed at the last Odlum Brown VanOpen are now ranked in the top 40 in the world, including Arthur Rinderknech (28), Ugo Humbert (29), and Zizou Bergs (35) on the men’s side, and Maja Chwalińska(22), Emma Navarro (26), and Wang Xinyu (40) on the women’s side.
The men’s and women’s tournaments each include US$225,000 in prize money.

Eight players who featured in the main draw at Wimbledon will compete in the men’s tournament, including France’s Benjamin Bonzi, who is ranked 93rd in the world. Keep an eye on 23-year-old Pablo Llamas Ruiz, a rising star who in 2023 became the youngest Spaniard to win an ATP Challenger title since Carlo Alcaraz.
Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis, who you may recognize as a breakout personality in Netflix’s Break Point, is coming to town as a qualifying wild card entry.

World No. 99 Lanlana Tararudee of Thailand headlines the women’s draw, which includes four players who featured in the main draw at Wimbledon. The 22-year-old competed at the Australian Open and Wimbledon earlier this year.
France’s Kristina Mladenovic, who has over 328,000 followers on Instagram, is the most famous player in the tournament. Once ranked 10th in the world in singles, the 33-year-old won the doubles championship at Wimbledon earlier this month.

Australia’s Priscilla Hon is also well followed on social media, to the tune of over 134,000 on Instagram.
