Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, dies at 99

Prince Philip, the husband of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II, has died at the age of 99.

Buckingham Palace made the announcement on Friday morning.

“It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh,” says an announcement from the Royal Family.

“His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.”

The Royal Family says further announcements will be made in due course as it joins with people around the world in mourning his loss.

Prince Philip spent a month in hospital earlier this year before being released on March 16 when he returned to Windsor Castle.
