Greyscale Creative, this year’s Bachelor of Performing Arts Cohort, presents The Home Project from January 21 to 29 at 320 Carrall Street. The lines between reality and fiction blur in an interactive installation that combines sound, visual arts and site specific performance.
The tale is brought together by these different artistic disciplines to tell the story of one woman’s life. This hybrid performance is an “investigation of how our homes reflect us and a glimpse inside the private world of an isolated individual.” The instructions are simple: “You receive a message from a woman. You can’t place where you’ve met her, but she tells you that it’s important you meet with her. You agree on a time, she gives you a place.”
The Home Project is a solo experience where you will immersed in sound and visuals while being lead through a Vancouver home. The hope is to evoke a feeling of escape for the viewer by presenting images of comfort, daily rituals and even some more dissonant snapshots, like nightmares. Your imagination will run wild in this alternate to physical existence. As the show is interactive, the audience “gets the last word”. As a viewer, you are encouraged to wander through the ‘home’ as you wish, and as such, each person will walk away with a different experience.

The Bachelor of Performing Arts Program is hosted at Douglas College this year. This fourth year program integrates students of varying disciplines from Capilano University, Douglas College, and Langara College and puts them in a nine-month intensive program with performing and practical education with an array of professional instructors. The program end project is to create a multidisciplinary original product to present to the public, for Greyscale Creative, this project is The Home Project.

Greyscale Creative features local artists Britt Bailey, Meg Leader, Shauna Griffin, Brendan Dell Aidan Hammond, Britney Buren, Faedra Mirhashemy and Stephanie Johannesen. Presented by this group of multidisciplinary students, The Home Project is bound to be a unique and touching experience that will evoke a truly heartwarming feeling for all observers. It is also an intimate and ultimately private performance and is incredibly interactive for those brave enough to venture in.
The Home Project will be performed at 320 Carrall Street, January 21 to 24 and 26 to 29. Shows run every half hour, the first show starts at 5 p.m. and the last showing is at 9:30 p.m. You can purchase tickets online.
