Preview: Arts Umbrella Dance Company presents Mixed Nuts

Mixed Nuts is a twisted version of The Nutcracker, featuring some of the classic numbers as well as new choreography from an array of dance genres, presented by Arts Umbrella Dance Company on December 18 and 19 at the Vancouver Playhouse.

Arts Umbrella Dance Company brings their modern retelling of The Nutcracker to the Vancouver Playhouse stage. This revamping of Tchailvosky’s classic ballet. They present their ‘tradition with a twist’ which includes all different dance styes, including hip-hop, ballroom, modern and of course, ballet. The show ends with the classic grand pas-de-deux.

Mixed Nuts combines old favourites from the original Nutcracker with modern choreography pieces by local Vancouver choreographers. The show even features some dancers from Ballet BC and Kid Pivot.

For some extra festive fun, there is a photobooth for you to take fun holidays shots in before the performance begins. There are props, costumes and even live dancers to pose with!

This family-friendly event encourages children to be inspired by the arts and dance by witnessing kids just like them dancing up onstage of the Vancouver Playhouse in this twisted version of The Nutcracker. By having youth of all ages, from the younger dancers to the pre-professionals, your own children can discover their own potential.


Mixed Nuts is presented by Arts Umbrella Dance Company at the Vancouver Playhouse (600 Hamilton Street, Vancouver) on Saturday, December 18 (7 P.M.) and Sunday, December 19 (2 P.M. and 7 P.M.). Tickets are $15 for seniors/students and $20 for adults. There is also a family package for $60 that includes two student/senior tickets and two adult tickets.
