Prep for Vegas in Vancouver

If you’ve never been to Vegas before, a warning: Competing with the glamazons strutting down the strip is not for the faint of heart! Luckily, you can prep for Vegas in Vancouver, and be ready before your plane even takes off.

FIRST STOP: BRAZIL

A bikini wax is an essential pre-trip ritual, considering you will be in the land of the high-class pool party. If you’ve never taken your pants off in front of a stranger for this before, don’t stress: it’s quite clinical and over in a (painfully blinding) flash.

Experts recommend taking Ibuprofin if you’ve never gone to Brazil before – it eases swelling. At Ecotique Spa in Metrotown, the waxing menu includes Vancouver-themed options, like the “YVR” (a perfect landing strip) and “West Coast Forest Fire” (no bush left standing). They also walk you through the process if it’s your first time.

Men, perhaps partake: Hairy backs may decrease your chances for a pick up at the pool.

FAKE, NOT BAKED

Any Vegas Veteran worth her salt will advise you to get a spray tan. It pays off when you’re in a short skirt and sky-high stilettos. Word to the wise? Go au naturel in the tanning booth to avoid unnecessary tan lines.

At the Brazilian Glow Bar in Kitsilano, a staff member helps you choose the right shade from one to three, then applies a sugar-based tanning product with an airbrush. This professional touch ensures even coverage and precludes a scenario like poor Ross in Friends.

CLAWS OUT

A well-manicured hand is a surprisingly big deal in Vegas. After all, your fingers are featured as you sip cocktails, or as you place bets at the craps table. And since you’ll be at the biggest party on Earth, why not have nails to match?

Vancouver’s Jenna DeVine is a nail artist and her creations are in a league of their own. From martians, to tiny dice, and more elegant concoctions, Ms. DeVine starts the party on your fingers. Check Belle of the Brawl Nails and she’ll help you create a look that says, “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.”
