Premiere: Mathew V’s debut single, “No Bad News"

Rich vocals, soul-soaked arrangements, and an impossibly catchy hook make for an infectious first impression from Vancouver-based artist Mathew V. The 19-year-old’s debut single, “No Bad News,” is a smooth sip of pop, bubbling over with a charm that becomes increasingly more pleasing as the track goes on.

V’s deep tones audibly showcase years of opera and classical music training, which are nicely complemented by an upbeat, gospel-tinged melody that references influences like Amy Winehouse and Paloma Faith.

In a statement, V said that the song is about the yearn for a romantic rebound — the result of getting his heart broken a few times — and honestly reflects the type of music that he’s always wanted to make.
