A major power outage has much of Vancouver’s Central Business District in the dark this afternoon.
Some of the city’s key financial buildings and office towers are experiencing an outage, including some of the Bentall towers, Shangri-La Hotel, Royal Bank tower, Burrard Building and the Hyatt Hotel.
The outage began at 12:38 p.m. affecting 80 customers and has since grown to more than 1,000 customers. There are social media reports that affected businesses are closing their doors.
BC Hydro says crews are mobilizing to the area and expect power to be fully restored by 6 p.m. The outage began on the 1000 block of West Georgia Street.
UPDATE: Power at all affected areas has been restored as of 3:10 p.m.
