Everyone knows about Fritz. It’s the place on Davie and Granville with line ups going out the door on Friday and Saturday nights. It’s where all the party-goers go to help soak up the alcohol and have deliciously salty fries, cheese, and gravy. I’ll admit, I do love going here after a drunken night.
The fresh fries are crisp and airy, and the cheese curds melt from the piping hot gravy leaving you a nice gooey sauce. The gravy isn’t too salty, but seasoned well enough to keep you happy. The cheese and gravy are layered so you will always have a nice cheesy and gravy filled bite.
Don’t expect fast food here though. They fry their fries on the spot, but they do a pretty good job of pumping out the orders. They offer five different sizes depending on how hungry you are, or if you are in the mood for sharing. Aside from your standard fries, gravy, and cheese, you have the option to customize and add different meats like the Montreal Smoked Meat (above). You can just get plain ol’ fries too, and kick it up with one of their 19 different dipping sauces.
They are open very late everyday except Mondays. If you haven’t had poutine after a night out partying downtown, I definitely recommend trying Fritz, as it is really close to the Granville scene. You won’t regret it.
