Got pot? All 184 Liberal MPs are receiving marijuana in the mail

Every single Liberal MP (yes, all 184 of them) will be receiving a special surprise in the mail – a gram of pot and a copy of a book called Cannabis in Canada, the Illustrated History.

Pot activist Dana Larsen is the author of the book and hopes this stunt will spark conversation.

“I’d be surprised if too many MPs smoke it themselves, but you never know. Probably someone on their staff will get to enjoy it. It will get them talking about the issue, which is important,” he told The Province.

This isn’t the first time he’s done this either. In 2014, Larsen sent pot in the mail to Premier Christy Clark to help remind her of the revenue that legalization could bring as well as provide an opportunity to hash out issues between the government and the BCTF.

And while sending pot in the mail is completely illegal, Larsen told The Province he wasn’t too worried.

“It’s not legal to mail people weed … but most of Canada’s marijuana laws are made to be broken, so that’s just another one,” he said.

VICE spoke to Toronto Police Constable Craig Brister on the legality of sending weed in the mail. Multiple investigations would need to be done for each package and considering the small amount enclosed, it’s likely not high on the RCMP’s list.

The person who sent it (in this case Larsen) would be on the hook anyway, not the person receiving the package.

Larson’s book is available for purchase here, along with other great titles like Green Buds and Hash.
