Ports International was founded in Toronto, Canada in 1961 by eccentric Japanese visionary Luke Tanabe, as a premium niche women’s fashion brand. Tanabe had a philosophy that embraced the ‘changing of the times,’ and was inspired by strong women entering the workplace during the ’60s. He designed masculine silhouettes with feminine touches, such as a crisp white shirt with a precise cut. He coined it the No. 10 Blouse, which became the iconic piece that built the brand in the ’60s and ’70s.
Since then, Ports International has evolved into Ports 1961, a utilitarian inspired, minimal design aesthetic with clever twists using only the best Italian fabrics and fabrications. Ports 1961 has dressed some of the most influential women in the world, from Michelle Obama to Angelina Jolie and Nicole Kidman.
Today, Ports 1961 is based in Milan, Italy. The women’s collection is under the design direction of Creative Director Natasa Cagalj and the men’s collection is under the design direction of Milan Vukmirovic. Both collections are highlights of Milan Fashion Week and sold worldwide in only the best designer luxury fashion retailers as well as Ports 1961 flagship stores in Paris, New York, Hong Kong and Shanghai.
Made in Italy, with a truly international point of view, Ports 1961 is a mix of global talents with operations in Europe, Asia and North America.
