Port Mann Bridge partially opens September 18

Dec 19 2017, 2:14 pm

The entire new Port Mann bridge opens this December, however, part of the new Port Mann Bridge will open September 18th when three eastbound lanes open to traffic. Drivers can expect to pay a $3 toll to cross the bridge when full open. Many consider this a penalty for living in Surrey, the reality is the toll is necessary to pay for the cost of the $3.3 billion project. The B.C. government is looking at a short term toll reduction, however, that may or may not happen.

Drivers can expect major changes and delays. They are warned to be wary of busier than usual traffic especially on the weekends of September 22/23 and 29/30 as overpass construction speeds up.

The 10-lane bridge will start with eight lanes this December at which point the old bridge needs to be dismantled before the final two lanes can be connected with Highway 1 in 2013.
