Demand for outdoor pool tickets crashes City website

Jul 12 2020, 8:40 pm

The City of Vancouver’s outdoor pool reservation system is up and running again after crashing Sunday morning as residents flocked to the site trying to purchase swimming tickets.

When three of the city’s outdoor pools reopen on Monday, patrons will mostly need to reserve swim times in advance. Tickets can be purchased on the City’s website starting at 9:30 am for the next day.

On Sunday morning, the first time tickets were available for the inaugural 2020 swim on Monday, the Park Board tweeted that the site was down.

“Sincere apologies to anyone who is trying to book a swim online for the outdoor pool openings tomorrow,” the board said in a tweet. “We are experiencing a technical challenge with our system and are working to bring it back up as soon as possible.”

Luckily, the site was back up and running before noon.

Kitsilano Pool, New Brighton Pool, and Second Beach Pool are all reopening with new pandemic precautions on Monday. Admission costs $6.22 per adult, and tickets can be purchased online.
