Police are investigating Vancouver’s first known pedestrian fatality of the year.

According to an email from the Vancouver Police Department, a woman and her husband in their 70s, both from Vancouver, were struck by a vehicle on Sunday, January 19.

The incident took place at approximately 5:20 pm at a marked crosswalk at Pacific Street and Richards Street. Police say the couple was struck by a delivery van while it was making a left turn onto Pacific Street.

Unfortunately, the female pedestrian has passed away. The male remains in the hospital with “serious injuries” as police continue to investigate.

The driver of the van, a 37-year-old male from Surrey, remained at the scene of the accident and is said to be cooperating with police.

Anyone with dash-cam footage who was driving in the area at the time of the collision, or anyone who may have witnessed the collision, is asked to call investigators at 604-717-3012.
