Police seek driver who fled scene after car erupts into flames in Surrey

Surrey RCMP are looking for a driver who allegedly ditched a vehicle following an early-morning accident on a Metro Vancouver highway.

According to Global News, the incident occurred at 3 a.m. Sunday on Highway 17 (South Fraser Perimeter Road) near where it goes under the Port Mann Bridge. An SUV went out of control and crashed into a median.

The driver fled the scene after a large fuel tank in the trunk of the vehicle exploded into flames. It has not been determined whether the vehicle was stolen.

The individual remains at large.
