Police in BC’s Interior are searching for a man they say tried to abduct a 10-year-old girl Friday afternoon.

RCMP for Barriere, BC, a community about 45 minutes north of Kamloops, say the girl was walking along a road around 3:30 pm when a man approached her.

He allegedly grabbed the girl’s wrist, but she fought back and ran away, Cpl. Rob Welsman said in a news release.

Officers canvassed nearby residents and brought in a K-9 unit to help the search, but they weren’t able to find the suspect. His whereabouts is still unknown.

Police describe him as about 40 years old, approximately 5’7″ tall with hazel eyes, brown short hair, and a  full beard shaped to a point at the end.

According to police, some planned events for kids in the community have been cancelled by organizers following this incident.

Barriere RCMP ask anyone with information about the suspect or what happened to contact them at 250-672-9918.
