A 73-year-old man is dead after a crash on Highway 1 in Langley on Sunday night.

Just before 10 pm, Langley RCMP responded to the incident, which took place in the 24800 block of the highway.

According to police, a westbound Toyota Echo collided with machinery used for highway construction. Investigators believe the Toyota was pulling into a pullout area of the highway and collided with the machinery off the side of the road.

The driver of the Toyota – a 73-year-old Surrey man – was the only occupant of the vehicle.

Police don’t believe alcohol was a factor in the collision.

The RCMP’s Langley Traffic Services has taken over the investigation, and no further details have been made available.
