Police descended onto the 7700 block of 155th Street, on the border of Newton and Fleetwood in Surrey, late last night after receiving reports of a shooting in the area.

According to Surrey RCMP, officers responded to reports at about 11:10 p.m. and found one male with a gunshot injuries upon arrival. He was transported to hospital in stable condition.

The investigation is still in its early stages, but police believe the incident was targeted. As well, a dark coloured SUV type of vehicle was seen driving quickly away from the area shortly after the shooting.

“Officers are and will be conducting neighbourhood canvassing and speaking with witnesses to obtain further information,” reads a statement by police.

This was Surrey’s 32nd shooting this year and the fourth incident in just four days – since Saturday evening. Police believe the recent surge in shootings may be related to a new drug turf war in the municipality.

On Monday, Surrey RCMP discovered a bullet hole on the exterior of their Guildford Community Police Station building, but they do not know when it happened.

Anyone with information that could assist investigators on any incident is asked to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers’ anonymous hotline at 1-800-222-8477.
