'Expect major delays': Alex Fraser Bridge reopens after police incident

The Alex Fraser Bridge reopened around 5 pm Tuesday after a police incident slowed traffic during the afternoon commute.

The police incident impacted both northbound and southbound traffic, and authorities advised drivers to find an alternate route.

Just before 4:30 pm, DriveBC is reported that a police incident had the bridge down to a single lane. It added that the southbound left lane was also blocked just after the Cliveden Avenue overpass.

“Expect major delays in both directions. Use an alternate route if possible,” it stated on X.

The update came after an earlier news release from Surrey Police Service (SPS), stating the bridge had been closed to northbound traffic due to a police incident.

“It is unknown how long the closure will be in effect,” noted an SPS spokesperson.

At 3:25 p.m., DriveBC reported that the bridge’s northbound lanes were “fully blocked” after being reduced to a single lane.
