Transit police investigating bus incident where man spit on, woman pushed

Metro Vancouver Transit Police are investigating an altercation during which a man appears to be spit on by a woman who he proceeds to push off a bus.

A video of the exchange was captured by another passenger and has made rounds on social media. The 30-second clip shows a dispute between a maskless female and a male passenger wearing a mask on a TransLink bus.

TransLink implemented its mandatory mask policy in August. Last month TransLink CEO reminded passengers that mask-wearing is their own personal responsibility.

In the clip, the man can be heard saying “disgusting.” The woman responds by spitting in the male’s direction.

The man then stands up and appears to push the woman twice. The woman falls off the bus the second time that she’s pushed.

The date and time of the altercation are unknown as is the bus on which the incident occurred. The video, however, shows a Japanese restaurant that’s located on the 2400 blocks of East Hastings Street in Vancouver.

Sergeant Clint Hampton, spokesperson for the Metro Vancouver TransLink Police, tells Daily Hive that they’re “aware of the video” and are currently looking into the matter.

“Our General Investigation Unit is now investigating which includes reaching out to the person who posted the video,” he says in an email. “We are in the very early stages of this investigation, so there is limited information at this time.”
