Police arrest two men for sexual assaults on public transit

Vancouver Police have made two arrests in connection with two separate sexual assaults that happened on transit vehicles in March.

On March 2, a witness saw one of the suspects grope the leg and thigh of another passenger while riding the 33 bus toward UBC. Transit Police were advised, but the suspect left the bus before police arrived. She once again saw the same passenger on the 33 bus on March 17. She called police who were able to catch the man and arrest him on scene.

The witness also told police the same suspect had assaulted her on the bus several weeks earlier, but she was too scared to report it.

The suspect, a 57 year-old man previously unknown to police, was released from custody with the condition that he not step foot on any Coast Mountain buses, SkyTrains, Canada Line trains, or SeaBus. He will be in court in April.

The second suspect was arrested after a March 20 assault when a woman was groped on a train at Marine Drive SkyTrain station. After calling the police, the suspect was identified as ‘prolific offender’ Joseph Wai Hung Lui, 43. He has since been released from custody, also with the condition not to step on any Vancouver public transit, and will face court on April 14.
