Canada’s favourite street hockey tournament is back! In about one month (May 15-16) Kelowna will be hosting CBC’s Play On! national tourny, followed by Burnaby on June 5-6. CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada Play On! is Canada’s official 4-on-4 street hockey tournament and outdoor hockey festival, and this summer it’s headed to 16 Canadian cities!
Each event involves closing nearly 1km of city streets, and involves the operation of 15 to 30 separate “street rinks” at all times throughout an entire weekend. CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada Play On! tournaments feature hundreds of teams and thousands of participants and include separate divisions for both genders, all skill levels, and all ages. Each player in the event receives a commemorative CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada Play On! t-shirt and an assortment of items and takeaways from national and local sponsors.
Play On! events feature an outdoor hockey festival area with interactive sponsor areas, local radio personalities and DJ’s, cool NHL prizes to be won, appearances by former NHLers, celebrity games, skill competitions and so much more!
The Play On! street hockey event series culminates annually with a national championship event, where Elite winners and finalists from each of the 16 regional event gather to compete for the title of ‘Canada’s Greatest Street Hockey Players’ and the Redwood Cup during the CBC’s Hockey Day in Canada.
