Tarmac troubles at YVR lead to runway closure and flight impacts

A plane went off the runway early Tuesday morning at Vancouver International Airport, leading to ongoing delays for one area of the airport.
According to the airport, the incident happened just before 2 am on the north runway, when a CargoJet flight operating a PrimeAir aircraft overran the runway on the eastern side.
“YVR Fire and Rescue attended. There were no injuries reported and the CargoJet crew of three were safely deplaned. Teams are on site assessing the situation,” the airport shared on X.
With safety and security as the top priorities, the north runway is closed as of Tuesday morning.
Passenger aircraft and flights may be impacted until the runaway can be brought back into operation.
This event will have an impact on YVR operations while we work to bring the North Runway safely back into operation. We encourage passengers to check with their airlines for current flight schedules and status.

“The North Runway is currently closed at YVR, and we anticipate it will likely remain closed for a period of approximately 48 hours. This closure will have an impact on YVR operations and flight schedules, but aircraft continue to arrive and depart on our South Runway,” the airport shared Tuesday morning.
