The season of giving isn’t gone yet.

Now all of the gifts have been opened and the wrapping paper has settled, it’s the perfect time to think about giving back and getting organized. Whether there are a few things that you’ve received that are just not “you,” or you need to clear some space to make room for your new presents, here are eight places in Vancouver you can donate or sell your unwanted stuff.

Turnabout

This luxury resale store lets you consign or outright sell designer pieces, making it a great place for those high-end items that you never wear. You can also bring in items to receive store credit, and see if you can find something new and exciting to bring home.

This consignment shop in Gastown lets you earn money back from your unwanted items, plus, their sales help contribute to Women Working With Women and A Better Life Foundation, so your clothing can help empower your community.

My Sister’s Closet

This shop downtown takes donations of both women’s and men’s clothing, and proceeds help fund the Battered Women’s Support Services as they work to end violence against women, making it a great cause to donate to as you clean out your closet.

The Wildlife Thrift Store

This funky thrift shop is another great option for donating clothing, books, homewares and more. The proceed help contribute to a variety of BC charities, including Coast Mental Heath and The Gathering Place, ensuring that your donation helps your local community.

Vancouver BC SPCA branch

If Fido got spoiled this year but doesn’t seem to like his new blanket, treat, or toy very much, the Vancouver BC SPCA branch can help. The animal welfare agency is seeking donations of pet food, toys, blankets and cushions to help keep their critters comfy. They’re also looking for a digital camera for taking photos of pets up for adoption. They will also take donations of used towels, to dry off those doggos coming in from the rain.

Someone gave you that best-selling thriller … that you already have? Your friend didn’t realize you’re not that into romance novels? Not to worry, as the Vancouver Public Library takes donations of books in good condition, ensuring that someone will enjoy that unwanted tome even if you don’t.

Big Brothers 

If your little one is not so enthusiastic about some of the gifts under the tree this year, Big Brothers is always looking for toys, clothing, video games, DVDs, and more. You and your child can work on choosing things to donate together, so you both can get in the spirit of giving. Big Brothers also accepts donations of houseware items.

If your cabinets are groaning under the weight of uneaten festive food why not contribute to the local food bank? Check expiry dates and pick out non-perishable items such as canned goods and crackers to give to help make someone’s season a little merrier. You can check their most wanted items here.
