Pink Ribbon Bakery: A Bakery with an Edge

Dec 19 2017, 2:58 pm

Pink Ribbon Bakery just past their one-year mark as they officially opened their doors back on January 22nd of 2012.  The warm, homey shop with a hard rock twist is best known for their freshness, incredible variety of flavours, and entrance into the fascinating niche market of having celebrity cake and cupcake customers. From the cast of shows like Supernatural, music icons like Snoop Dogg, or other personalities such as Kat Von D pictured above with owner Sheila Comer, this bakery has an edge and a story that most are missing.

Sheila started creating custom cakes out of her kitchen in 2010, with the first-ever being for her own dad’s 50th birthday party. With such a positive response she began exploring the market and creative outlet that cake making could provide. Well, it’s been full steam ahead ever since. As a business owner starting out of course can be a lot to juggle and get used to. What you get back is a direct result of how much hard work you put in, something Sheila recognized early.

There is so much work to do, especially in the beginning and there is only one brain and one set of hands to do it. I was the baker, cake designer, janitor, accountant, stock maintenance manager, email and phone rep, you name it!

Through all the hard work, the creative personality and strong focus on customer satisfaction does not only show in the final product, it can be seen in the marketing efforts in landing big clients. Including none other than Mr. Snoop Dogg. It’s quite the story, so to read more you can check her post out here -> Meeting Snoop. These efforts have been paying off. The follow-up gestures, such as a personal phone call from Snoop Dogg thanking her and sending pictures of the cupcakes to his over 10-million Twitter followers, is needless to say – good for business.

I always wanted to be known for that focus on quality and friendly personable service. We really enjoy meeting new customers and getting their feedback – and are so very thankful to our loyal and returning customers.

I decided to take to twitter to see what kind of comments other locals had to say about their Pink Ribbon experience:

@stalecupcake – a friend bought me your cupcakes for my birthday & they were not only gorgeous, glittery & to die for, but also DELISH as well!

@DJKashaKennedy – Thanks for the beautiful birthday cake PinkBakery for @reikomommy!

@Jabbers – Birthday cupcakes from @PinkBakery!! Thank you SO much Sheila!! I think my eyes..

@KristyydBosch – Finally visited @PinkBakery, Here’s a pic of my son enjoying a red velvet cupcake. Good to the last crumb!

With nothing more than seeming success on the horizon, I asked Sheila to share a piece of advice for those looking to start a business and pursue their passions:

Business advice: Stick with it! If you believe in yourself and if you truly know that your business idea is going to make it, then just stick with it. Sometimes it can be very overwhelming and the workload may seem never ending, but it will work itself out in the end if you just push through it.

The Bakery has also been a strong and proud supporter of The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation right from the beginning, holding fundraisers throughout the year and donating a portion of proceeds to the cause.

The designs are definitely incredible and worth checking out. If you have that special someone or event coming up, I highly recommend dropping them a line and seeing what magical cake they can concoct for you.
